I believe that the previous alternator was outputting 14.2 volts on idle consistently, but with this rebuilt one that I've had, it varies from 13.5 - 14V on idle. Web13 sep. 2024 · With car off, battery should test at 12.2- 12.6 volts at the battery. With engine running you should have 14.0-14.5 volts at the battery. Lower than that, it is most likely the alternator . You should check belt and grounds before you replace the alternator.

Low current output
WebIf the voltage output drops below 13.5V, the power supply is low so the regulator’s sensors close the circuit to the alternator. This causes the alternator to switch on, increasing the magnetic field and delivering power to the battery. WebThe lifespan of a battery is significantly lower if it is never properly charged. In order to adequately recharge a partially empty or completely flat battery at 25 ºC, voltage need to be 14.25 volt for a 12-volt battery and 28.5 volt for a 24-volt one.

Web29 apr. 2024 · But if you’re looking for a temporary fix, it is possible to adjust alternator voltage using diodes. A diode is a small semiconductor which essentially tricks the alternator into thinking the voltage is lower than it is, encouraging it to increase the voltage. You can use connectors to add diodes to the excite wire running to the alternator.
Web2 feb. 2024 · At low RPM, it's simply not producing enough voltage to do anything useful for with a 28V system. eg. It may be capable of generating 22V at 2000RPM, enough for a decent output when loaded to 14V but not enough for any current with the 28V load.
